BBC Radio Scotland Young Traditional Musician Award 2027 is open for entries

The BBC Radio Scotland Young Traditional Musician of the Year remains the prestigious award for young traditional musicians in Scotland. The competition final takes place during the Celtic Connections Festival, and a place in the final can be the perfect way to kickstart a career in traditional music.

Entrants must be aged between 18 and 27 years and must currently reside in Scotland.

The prize for the winner includes a recording session and appearance on Radio Scotland’s Travelling Folk, a performance opportunity at the Scots Trad Music Awards; and a performance opportunity at the HebCelt Festival and one year’s membership of Musicians Union and the TMSA.

Closing time for entries is 23:59 on Sunday 2nd August 2026.
