Magpie Sky is the new album from poet, songwriter and folksinger, Jon Bickley. A collection of songs bursting with melody and joyfully performed by the Invisible Folk Club Band. The songs touch on love, climate change, social justice and the spiritual search. Songs for our times dealing with eternal themes.

“Whenever I see single Magpies I think it is a shame that we think ‘One for sorrow.’ I thought I would write something a bit more optimistic for all us single Magpies.” Jon Bickley

Diana Stone plays fiddle, Phil Beavis plays accordion, Milo Downs plays mandolin and sings, Bill Nimmo plays bass and Andrew Dunn plays slide guitar.

Magpie Sky follows on from Jon’s last album, Grace Will Lead Me Home. For that album, he recruited Anegline Morrison and Cohen Breathwaite-Kilcoyne to explore John Newton as the writer of Amazing Grace and Slave Trader. Mojo voted it as one of their top-ten folk albums of 2024.

“A songwriter of some insight” – RnR
“Splendidly earthy” – Songlines
“Stirring, imaginative” – the Guardian
“…seeks a communion with the landscape” – Sunday Times
“…echoes of Peter Bellamy’s The Transports” – Mojo ****
“…good heart and humour” – Irish Music Magazine

Jon also presents the Invisible Folk Club radio show.
