“Imrich (Emigration) is my 7th studio album, forty years on from the first release with my original band Island Express in 1979.
As with all my previous albums this one (with its central theme of emigration and its effects) represents the musical influences I have gradually incorporated into my compositions in a more personal way over this period of time.
These recordings of mostly original songs and instrumentals are perhaps a most accurate snapshot of where I am at now musically in 2019, and how this has developed using our Gaelic language as a main source and inspiration to my songs and music.
I was able to call upon the musical talents of a varied group of musicians from around the world – from Nashville to New York, Canada to Australia, and back to Scotland – to help me realise the vision I had for this album. It was mixed and mastered mostly in Scotland by the superbly talented Mattie Foulds at Caribou Recordings, with two tracks mixed by my long-time friend Scott Neubert at Smash Recording in Nashville and one track by Yves Lambert Trio at Artfarm Recording in New York.”
