“This album is a fantastic tribute to, and a celebration of, two ubiquitous bandleaders and past chairmen of the NAAFC – Jimmy Blue (Chairman 1975-1994) and Jim Johnstone (Chairman 1994-2000).” Nicol McLaren, Chairman National Association of Accordion and Fiddle Clubs.
“The CD is an excellent one and the final product is outstanding. Kevin and the Band have captured the atmosphere on every track.” John Carmichael, accordionist and band leader.
The Craigowl Band started their journey in Dundee 40 years ago and quickly became well-known on the Scottish Dance Band Scene, with a connection to NAAFC from even before they formed the band.
To celebrate the 50-year anniversary of the NAAFC, Kevin has generously recorded and dedicated this CD to the NAAFC under the guidance of the band’s original producer, Freeland Barbour.
The CD has captured the sound and life of the heyday of the Scottish Dance Music Scene and is an obvious labour of love for Kevin and the Band who all donated their time and talent to this project. When launched at the Perth & District Accordion and Fiddle Club, it was clear to see that people still remember and talk of the great bandleaders of that time and that the band captured that atmosphere to a tee. This CD has music for dancers and listeners alike.
The CD features not only music from some eminent and well-kent musicians, but band leader Kevin Clark has also assembled a group of most talented and well-known fellow musicians: On second accordion you hear accompaniment from Bruce Quirie, while Kevin’s sister Stella Wilkie plays the fiddle. Pianist Dennis Morrison also assisted with the fantastic arrangements that had toes tapping throughout the launch. Well-known bassist Neil McMillan and drummer Graham Jamieson adds further depth and tempo to the sound. Graham could not be at the launch, but Duncan Burn ably assisted on the night.
The record was recorded with the help of Stuart Hamilton at Castlesound Studios and the cover was designed by Birnam.
This album has been donated to the NAAFC with all proceeds from this CD split between the NAAFC and the individual clubs providing both with much needed funds at this difficult time.
