Press Release

New album, Steer by the Stars by Skipinnish, is a clear mark of the band’s success, as they get ready to celebrate their 20th Anniversary. On digital release, the album smashed into the UK Top Ten reaching number four on the mainstream iTunes chart. For a “Trad” band to be knocking on the door of a number one album is almost unbelievable.

From humble beginnings performing in pubs, clubs and village halls in 1999, the rise of Skipinnish over recent years has been astounding. Since the release of their 2017 album, The Seventh Wave, Skipinnish have been riding their own huge wave of popularity with sell-out shows across the country’s most prestigious venues, chart hits and snowballing home and international fan-base. With over 10 million streams on Spotify, millions of views on YouTube and an insatiable demand for their live shows, the Skipinnish wave continues to rise.

Steer by the Stars moves forward on familiar Skipinnish themes of ocean, Island landscapes, love, hope, mortality, friendship and the pull of home. With their trademark mix of self-penned songs and strong tune sets the album creates a satisfying mix of emotions building on the background of their now classic anthems, Walking on the Waves, The Island, Alive, Western Ocean and many others.

Steer by the Stars was officially released to a packed audience at Edinburgh’s Usher Hall on May 25th. New songs and tunes from the album made their live debut at this iconic auditorium.

Drummer and youngest member, Rory Grindlay, was not even born when the band was formed and in that time Skipinnish have reached the very top of the Celtic Music scene in Scotland. Bands rise and fall, but at this moment in our history, Skipinnish are undoubtedly the kings of their realm.
