Consultation on a National Performing Company for Traditional Music. Scottish Government Consultation

A National Performing Company raising the profile of Scottish folk music around the world. The Scottish Government is exploring the potential development of a National Performing Company for Traditional Music and has launched a public consultation.

Currently the five National Performing Companies: National Theatre of Scotland, Scottish Opera, Scottish Ballet, the Royal Scottish National Orchestra and the Scottish Chamber Orchestra are funded directly by the Scottish Government and aim to achieve the highest professional artistic standards, including a continued commitment to:

performance excellence; bringing forward work of a high international standard;

the ongoing development of new works and productions;

innovation, in terms of the work produced and the way it is produced;

inspiring audiences across Scotland, enriching their lives and fostering creativity;

quality education activities; and,

the development of artists.

The consultation is seeking views from people across Scotland’s traditional music community and wider audiences to understand the potential benefits and priorities for future support of the sector and what a national performing company might look like.
